I'm I right in suspecting that support for the SharePoint snap-in (or any other 64-bit library) will not be supported in Visual Studio 2010, since VS itself in 32-bit?

You are correct. The PowerGUI script editor needs to load the snap-in to generate type data. It marks that type data either x86 or x64. I'm going to add this to the back log though because it may get fixed inadvertently through the debugger work.

Yes - this would be really nice to have, since there's so much powershell in SP2010...
